I also had a similar problem after changing my motherboard: my USB wifi dongle
was disconnected after an error message related to rhythmbox (in dmesg: "usb
2-1.1: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd rhythmbox rqt 128 rq 6 len 255 ret
-71"). I was able to reconnect by unplugging / replugging it. D
hi, i've nearly the same problem but only with a nikkon d5000.
Disabling the MTP plugin solve the problem.

@Pedro : when the MTP plugin is disabled the usb key is mounted. Note
that in my second PC I can't reproduce this problem with rhythmbox and
the same usb key. But I reproduce it each time in my laptop.
