Concluded in Bug #706783 - BIOS SETTING for VGA SHARE MEMORY SIZE was
set to 32M. When changed to 64M Ubuntu Desktop Edition booted normally.
Athlon XP on Biostar Mobo M7VIG 400, w/1GB DDR2 RAM.

My HDD was subjected to every data removal option short of scrap yard
Electro Magnet or Low Level Format, and after repeated reloads from
disc's and internet update and upgrade

10.10 came out, same bug. I implore you to open this bug for upgrade. "no
activity" is result of complete disabling of MY computer for one, and I suspect
upgrade information needed on HDD formatting. Please excuse the reference here
(and not in Maverick Meerkat version bugs) but I think this

Effecting me as well, but in my case the only update I can point to is a
kernel upgrade. This could be a mis-match between X (or just GDM) and
the recently upgraded kernel version number. The minor number went from
22 to 23 (that is the Ubuntu build number)... This has me locked out of
my netbook
I would like to know if this is something that is being worked on. I
don't know how to fix this loop myself and it seems I do not understand
where to start for a solution. If I knew where to look, I might could
help. Right now - my computer is still downgraded to ubuntu 9.10. The
upgrade still

I do not have expertise to do this; working on getting my ubuntu "pal" to do

install after shred command did nothing to change the login loop. main
computer is down until this is fixed as far as 10.04 is concerned.

Proceedure was upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 via internet upgrade.
Details:
Ubuntu 10.04 AMD 64-bit
Toshiba A210 laptop
Previous install 9.10, dual boot share with Vista.
Mitigations tested:
- login via recovery mode: fail
- login via previous linux headers: fail
Upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 - login loop every single time - login
screen showed up after a black screen blip. Shows a cl login prompt
with the "correct" login ID name that disappeared right away.

I can boot the livecd environment and run Ubuntu from there, but after
the install when the full install tries to login is where the problem
starts. I have tried both with a normal password login and having it
automatically log me in. Password login was only tried using the 64 bit

thank you for your bug report, you can boot the livecd image though or
did you install in some other way? could you do an isntallation using
normal password login, try to start your session, switch to a vt and
copy the .xsession-errors something and add to the bug?
