i too would like to see an option to set the extra pane in nautilus, as
i almost always am using the extra pane and would like it to be the
default. thank you.

vs gnome policies. too bad mark did not confirm that the fork hit gnome

The inclusion of a default option under Edit > Preferences for the
additional pane is a very useful feature. Otherwise the additional pane
gets lost and must be reactivated via F3.
Agree to add this to the wishlist.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would
be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people
writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)
Closing the bug there since several issues should not be tracked in one
