Work around: I could get the window manager to start by removing the
directory:
~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session/

Same problem for me. I need to start the window manager with

after login. The file ~/.xsession-errors seems to have some errors that

login the window manager is gone again.
It's because of ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/%gconf.xml,
which I have attached here. Removing this file can start the window manager
correctly (compiz).
