I have located the problem. As mentioned, cdrdao version is not detected
properly. This is because brasero's detection is based on analysis of
the first line of output that cdrdao generally provides, which has the
following format:
Cdrdao version %d.%d.%d - (C) Andreas Mueller

Confirmation:
Trying to copy an Audio CD, Brasero demands
manual installation of the following packages:
cdda2wav
cdrdao (mentioned 2 times)
toc2cue
Workaround:
Installed cdda2wav via apt-get.
Installed cdda2wav, now titled icedax, via apt-get.
I should also add that if you are only receiving an error for toc2cue
you may be able to satisfy this through synaptic by adding the cuetools
package. I believe that should satisfy that dependency. After the
configure command from my previous post you may want to be sure that
those particular lines

Well. To me, the importance of this bug has nothing to do with the "normal"
user.
The normal user, to me, has already decided to use Ubuntu, and despite the
occasional problem, such as this one, Ubuntu far surpasses the usefulness of
the alternatives, with the exception of maybe macOS.
I hate to say this but I really hope Ubuntu remove Brasero and choose another
tool as default for this task.

Using package from ppa of renbag doesn't fix anything.
So, now I use K3b... yes this use a lot of library but I can copy audio
cd ...

2. Via terminal and apt-get removed brasero
3. Via terminal and apt-get installed brasero

it says an internal error has occured and I saved the log and this is

I get the error "please install the following libraries manually -
libdvdcss.so.2" - twice when trying to burn DVD copies. Is this related
to the issue discussed in this thread? I have manually updated these
libraries and it makes no difference to the error and the application
completely fail
Also nothing solved for me; tried uninstalling also, rebooting, re-installing,

My Problem got resolved by the solutions posted in Bug # 115829 and

Brasero (Lucid - v2.31.2) is now working perfectly in every function I

Yesterday, we just had the problem with 2 laptop using Ubuntu Lucid, trying to
copy an audio CD.
The first (Ubuntu i386) was asking about cdda2wav which was missing, and the
second (Ubuntu amd64) reported an internal error and create an empty log.
After reading theses comments I tried 2 t
With the last Brasero updated I have my laptop burning and copy CD's and my
desktop off.
Laptop: ASUS A6JC Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2250 @ 1.73GHz
Desktop: Genuine Intel (R) Pentium 4 CPU 775V88
I check all the packages installed in both machines and I have no diference.

Today's Brasero upgrade to 2.30.2 seems to have solved the problem with
audio cd, without the need to upgrade cdrdao; it still remains however
for data cd, as launching "copy cd" still asks to install plugins

Renzo's PPA fix works for me, but it still takes upwards of 45 minutes
just to copy a cd. That's just nuts. Sound Juicer extracts a cd in 4
minutes. For me Brasero remains nearly unusable, even with the fix.
I'd just a soon exact to .wav and burn the tracks as a new project. It
isn't a 1:1 cop
It does seen odd that this basic function does not work. I would like
to be able to burn a cd or two without resorting to nero or pulling
massive amounts of hair out.

the preamble...I wanted to say that I personally have solved the problem taking
cdrdao ver. 1.23 from a puppy linux forum and brutally copying into /usr/bin;
now brasero doesn't complain anymore that the plugin is old,
A correction to my last post; GnomeBaker in Lucid is writing usable
copies of my audio cd's, it is my cd player that is junk and needed some
maintenance (doh).

I have also been experiencing the same error and failures, and have
produced nothing but junk cd's using GnomeBaker.
This bug (and it's handling) is an utter shock, and caught me off guard.
It gives an otherwise stellar distro a black eye. I wish the team luck
with it and better decision making in

fix from a PPA?! Fix released means "done, closed, go along", but as long as
there is no correct package in the official ubuntu sources, most people will
have the problem.

Why not make a silly dummy package with something like the fix in #68.
Then brasero could depends on that. For me the cdda2wav provided by
icedax works, but only when "fixed" like #68.
Isn't it a basic expectation that unskilled users can copy a cd? Why
wasn't this a showstopper bug?

curious how Jaime Pereira could manage to get it worked simply after
updating to the latest provided kernel update. To me the issue has not
changed and the bug is still there. I have been unable to copy audio CD

I had some problems to copy CD/DVD with Brasero but after the last kernel
update it looks everything is fine.

preaching what a 'success' this release has been when such a fundamental piece
of "inbuilt" functionality is being ignored in the state that it is. It would
be unfortunate enough if this were just another release. But
I used this workaround on Lucid, which wraps icedax and pretends to be
"cdda2wav 2.0.0" : create a /usr/local/bin/cdda2wav executable file with:
