I added the tag HW-Specific due to it requires a duel monitor setup to
create. Not everyone is lucky enough to have duel monitors.

I've noticed this also, but only with dual-monitor setup. I don't know
if it's Nautilus causing this though. I'll investigate it next time I
see it

It being hw-specific is *very* unlikely. Otherwise would panels and windows
also be misplaced.
It appears as well on a single monitor. Change your background to solid black
to see a white 1px border on the left side of the monitor.

I bet nautilus is appropriate package. GDM does not handle background
image.
