Figured out the problem.
If you install Adobe Reader 9.2 and have it set as default for opening
PDFs, it causes nautilus to hang in the documents folder, for some
unknown reason.
I switched back to the document viewer, and this switch eliminated the
problem.

icons did not mitigate the problem for me. The problem started today. It
had not been a problem for a couple weeks. Since it only started

I am terribly sorry but I cannot reproduce the problem with a fresh
installation of Karmic under KDE or GNome. I loaded a few PDF files
followed by nearly a thousand PDFs ranging in size from a few kilobytes
to 20MB in 30 sub-folders. If I can reproduce the problem then I am
more than happy to
