Recommends are packages that should be installed to all the features of a package working but that are not mandatory and users are free to uninstall if they really want, that situation probably matches that situation, I'm marking the bug as rejected since that's not a bug but a choice from the main

Well, those plugins are included by default and are unusable without that package (same goes for most of the python plugins found on the net), so I wouldn't say gedit fully works without it. The CommonInstallHook solution would be nice, but in the meanwhile, can't the dependency be added? It's in

Thanks for your bug report. I'm inclined to close it, as gedit will work without python-gnome2-desktop. I added it to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/CommonInstallHook as that would fix the real problem. ** Changed in: gedit (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal => Minor Priority: None => Low
