I already told you reason of problem for my case. My network Manager
not able to recognize my wvdial connection( my dial up modem). so even
i connected to internet it show no connection. Empathy some how check
network manager for this and remain quit. when i uninstall network
manager it sta
Its really inconvenient and I don't expect this as a bug... I hope i
could use my empathy sooner. I just jumped here in linux to kicked -off
this 2010 and start this year by going open-source thank you...

Please delete all accounts in empathy and quit empathy. then remove
~/.config/Empathy ~/.mission-control and ~/.gconf/apps/empathy and
reboot your system and make an account and see if that solves the
problem. Else you may want to try the development release of ubuntu from
the ppa to install latest

I have the same issues, except it is network error on all accounts (my
Yahoo and AIM).
