I don't know if the responsibility here has changed since the
introduction of Unity, but I am still experiencing this bug using Ubuntu
12.10 on my Macbook Pro. The keyboard backlight and the Apple logo light
also stay on, until my screen saver starts.

Just tried it, it is still a problem in karmic. I noticed that g-p-m has
nothing to do with it (running "gnome-screensaver-command --lock" has
the same effect as hitting CTRL-ALT-L).
