I have also faced this issue on my Dad's laptop. The model is HP Compaq
NX6120 (if that matters).

totem-gstreamer needs to work to play DVD finely, that will probably be
done upstream next cycle

I just think that upstream support is very poor. Probably those
functions are not complete, or are badly implemented by totem-gstreamer.

Sorry, I thought the no menu effect was part of the same problem. If it's
known, I'm not going to file it as a different bug. However, my originaly
bug was that if I put a DVD in the drive, and it automatically played, I
could not "fast forward","rewind", or skip tracks. If I quit Totem, and
tryed
playing what? maybe your comment describe different issues, please use
different bugs if that's the case. No menu is due to the feature not
being worked yet
