I have this problem too
If a WM other than Compiz or Metacity is used the workspace switcher
applet only shows the current workspace and cannot be used to switch
between other desktops irrespective of the setting in the properties UI.

Using a correct tone and not start a description by describing changes
stupid would be a better way to start a constructive discussion with
somebody and interest it in your change
