If it lends any clues, I've experienced this same bug going back many versions of gnome I believe back to 2.26, in both Ubuntu and Gentoo, - with metacity compositing enabled. The one thing I think I've linked it to is the use of devilspie. I use it to remove titlebars, and though I'm not familia

I see this too with an MSI Wind U123 and UNR 10.04. Disabling maximus' undecorate seems to take care of it, but I haven't tested it for more than a few minutes. Of course I would prefer not to have to disable maximus' undecorate... -- Gnome panel (UNR) disappears with metacity compositor enabled

To be clear, this bug is about Metacity compositing, not Compiz. As far as I know, it's Compiz that is the default compositing. Although as an aside I've been having trouble with Compiz disabling itself on reboot as well. -- Gnome panel (UNR) disappears with metacity compositor enabled https://bu

since compositing is enabled by default in the installation of ubuntu 9.10 (NBR), this bug is probably quite relevant... when new users install for the first time and doesn't have a clue what's happening and why they'll probably end their experience there and then... either this bug should be seen
