I did have the screen saver working at one stage in xubuntu 9.10 I can't remember what I had installed, But you could try this: http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-xfapplet-plugin And ensure the gnome services under advanced of xfce services. The alternate to using "Gnome-Screens

FWIW, "gnome-screensaver-command -a" does activate the screen saver for me in a Gnome session (XFCE unfortunately does not bring up the window manager in Karmic for me) PS: Charlie just told me in IRC that the above command works for him as well, but that the timed activation of the screensaver do
