I have the same problem with the attached pdf on Jaunty:

can you try with Intrepid?
I've tried it just now, left rendering for minutes but all I get is a
blank page - CPU completely idle.
$ apt-cache policy evince

works fine for me , evince 2.26.1, give it few seconds to render , the
document s is a large image
