Ah ha! I'm running Dapper. $ echo $LANGUAGE en_US:en_GB:en If I run evolution like this, it displays properly: LANGUAGE=en_US evolution I don't know what this means from a technical standpoint. Maybe Evolution is seeing no en_US "translation" so it's falling back to en_GB? -- British English
