I thin its funny that wanting Ubuntu to not rape the environment and my
battery is a "wish list" item. Clearly there is a problem with Canonical's
view of their impact.

I fail to see the point of a screen saver that is attempting to display a
perfectly black, but instead displays a grey screen which is waisting the
life, using Co2, eating up my battery and burning out my display.

In Preferences > Power Manager you can select the display time, for instance on
my jaunty system I set mine to the lowest - 11mins and after that time it shuts
off power to the monitor completely.
