No hibernate/sleep available in gdm, but once logged in they do exist
and work OK.
I am on Jaunty.
This laptop PC was upgraded from previous releases.
The desktop PC I have was reinstalled with Jaunty and the
hibernate/sleep buttons do show up (nevermind they do not work properly

In Gutsy, I don't have the "Hibernate" option in the gdm menu any
longer. And Suspend does nothing*. Both work fine once I am logged in.
Both are enabled in /etc/default/acpi-support.

I can see same behaviour in gutsy, wheras the bug was fixed, according
to previous post.
Look at bug #139302 and say if it's the same or not (in gutsy).

I tried the patch, and it works - I can now hibernate from the gdm login
menu, whereas before it did not work.

note that the package is supposed to fix the menu item, not make
hibernate work on box where it didn't work before (if it doesn't work
from the GNOME dialog it'll probably make not work from gdm)

The importance change is not because the bug is present for some time,
it's because the feature didn't work before so that's not a regression.
I've updated the hibernation patch, could anybody having the issue give
it a try? The updated patch can be downloaded from
http://people.ubuntu.com/~seb128
Andrew, I think the policy is to use "high" only for regressions or
major break of functionality. And nobody is saying it's not going to be
fixed. But I generally agree with you, it should at least be "normal"
and targeted for 6.10 IMO. I guess the developers are reluctant to
remove the menu entry
I'm not sure I understand why the longevity of the bug should influence
it's priority. I'd like to understand. Would you mind explaining? Bug
#1 has been true since way before gdm even existed and it's marked
"Critical." :)
Also, if you're saying that it's not going to get fixed then you shoul
not right priority, that never worked from gdm itself

Both on my machine do not work. Hibernate, I get "Authentication failed.
Letters must be typed in the correct case" and I did not type anything
in. In suspend I get a white screen then it just returns to the login
screen.
