If it does not happen with a mouse attached, its very likely that you
accidently activate the touchpad with your palm or arm. Invalidating
here, since thats not a gedit-issue.

Yes, It still occurs occasionally. I haven't been able to use a usb
mouse yet. running xev just shows a window with a black box in it.
What should I look for when running xev?

The bug only affects gedit. Could it be something in gedit is not
detecting releasing a click? I can post any config files or settings to
help debug this.

No, the problem also happens when I use the nub in the middle of the
keyboard. Even if it was by error the gedit program shouldnt be able to
be moved around the screen just by mousing over any part of the window.
I'll see if taking a screencast later shows the problem any better
