/proc/bus/usb is deprecated, programs shuold use /dev/bus/usb instead.
Or even better, just use /dev/ttyUSBn.

When I manually start gpilotd in stead of using the panel-applet everything
works allright.
So the problem seems to be in de applet.

Have the same problem here.
I can't sync my palm trungsten E either.
It works perfectly with jpilot but not with gnome-pilot.
here is the output of gpilotd:

Matt Davey pointed out that /proc/bus/usb/devices needs to exits for
gpilot to work, this isn't (on my installations) the case for dapper)
