I know that this isn't a bug discussion anymore, but I wanted to know,
what actually caused the flickering? With me the flickering always came
up, UNLESS I had fullscreen on without any of the controls.
The fix worked though, but I'm wondering what I actually fixed.

easy fix:
>run gstreamer-properties
>click on video
>under plugin select X Window System (no Xv)
then restart totem.

I googled for flickering gstreamer, and found this bug.
The simptoms are similar, 8.10, amd64, ati driver and gstreamer.
Other suggested that replacing the video output driver from default (xv->x11 or
anything) should help.
