reason for it being disabled as default. Sorry for the trouble.

Alt+Q isn't the default for gnome-terminal's "open new terminal" option.
Ctrl+Shift+N is. Perhaps you reset the accelerator yourself? If you
have enabled accelerator editing in System -> Preferences -> Appearances
-> Interface, you can change the accelerator for any menu item in most
GNOME applic
