Okay. I added the PPA repo and got the physical power button on my cpu to
pull up the shutdown/restart dialogue. The AWN quit applet still pulls up
the logoff/switch user dialogue however. This applet needs to

Yes, the account has the privileges. I can launch shut down from the system
menu. Apparently, Ubuntu has split up ending sessions into two different
commands in Intrepid. The first does what the quit applet is

As Mark says this has nothing to do with AWN and is an issue with the
Intrepid beta. There is a fix available in a PPA in the duplicate bug
which you can test however; it works for me.
