I'm not really sure, I almost always use icon view anyway. But having
them in the file chooser (open / save menus) has always been useful to
me, and they're not bigger, there.

I don't quite get it. Then why does the list view have icons? By
default, both views show icons at the same size.

that's not really a bug as explained on bugzilla the thumbnail are not
very useful on so small icons
