Oh, I didn't know that this was reported already, just got referred here
by a duplicate. Regarding the name: is this still about the gnome volume
applet or about the gnome panel? The title is confusing (non-native
speakers like me could wonder what "dangle" means :)), maybe we should
clear up what

Does the tooltip appear as soon as you scroll or have you to hover the mouse
over the applet icon ?
With Feisty I did not have to hover and so avoid to interrupt what I was doing.

Hovering the mouse over the applet icon shows a tool-tip, scrolling the mouse
(actually laptop touchpad) causes the volume to change as expected (the tooltip
is updated when I "scroll").

About that volume control applet, when you move the mouse on the applet and
change the volume with the help of the mouse wheel (so without clicking on the
applet to make the slider appearing), do you have the tooltip with the volume
percent value appearing ?

It's being considered by the upstream authors now: "A redesign is being
planned, look for a prototype in 2.25.2. If it doesn't work out we'll
head back to the 2.22 design for 2.26." So it will be fixed, thanks for

I agree with most others, it's annoying to have to click icon again to
make the volume disappear - it's really bugging me..

please change it back or tell us a good way to make the sound slider go
away. this is just really annoying. the UI should become transparent
when the user is done using that feature. it shouldn't stick around like
a sore thumb.

If this is an upstream choice, it's a very very BAD choice! This worked very
well in Ubuntu 8.04.1, and now in Ibex it isn't comfortable to use. If
developers wouldn't like to fix this, give a workaround or an option to restore
the old functionality.

To me, this was a very noticeable change to the UI in 8.10. I prefer
having the volume slider disappear when focus is lost. Changing volume
is a one-time ordeal -- when the sound needs adjustment, I click the
volume icon and change the volume to a more comfortable level. I'm done

popup window is clicked outside. You would have to change a lot of the
