I can play the music CD with the Ubuntu Movie Player without a problem
so I know my Audio Card are drivers are fine.

Now, a few minutes later, the music player is blank and still not
playing, almost like a Windows program freeze.

The CD's title/track information comes up appropriately in the
information bar of the player but the player won't play the music.

Same problem here. I had meddled with ALSA and PulseAudio settings,
since upgrading to Hardy, while trying to make audio capture work. I was
unsuccessful, and may have broken Rhythmbox somehow. I have also messed
with codecs and the medibuntu repo since then, trying to fix DVD
playback, which was s
I found that the sound card/drivers did not install properly. I
reinstalled Ubuntu and this resolved the problem.
