not a gnome-session bug the applets are used by the panel and you can't
remove them this way

I run
gnome-session-remove --list
A number of items are listed, including deskbar-applet
I run e.g.
gnome-session-remove deskbar-applet
Nothing appears to happen (I would expect the deskbar-applet to be removed). I
run
gnome-session-remove --list
again and it no longer lists that desk
