Thanks for the extra info.
I think there are two possible fixes for this issue.
The problem is the g-c-c checks for "epiphany" in the path.
This is a shell script shipped by the epiphany-browser package
that just execs epiphany-browser. That is an alternative provided
by both -gecko and -web
epiphany-browser... wha? it is not installed!
But I'm indeed writing this from a "properly" working epiphany-gecko 2.21.90
installed on a fresh Hardy beta 5 + updates.
The way I did install epiphany was the same as I did in previous ubuntu
releases: install the "epiphany-extensions" package and l

Firstly the versions of Epiphany and gnome-control-center
you have installed.
Next could you attach
/usr/share/gnome-control-center/gnome-default-app
I just installed epiphany (Package: epiphany-browser) and it showed up in
"preferred applications". So this bug does NOT occur to me. Can someone else
please confirm?
