You make a valid point that this bug doesn't exist with gedit (I just
tried) but does with Firefox. My suggestion is that you open a bug on
Mozilla's Bugzilla

Well, it works to paste after you close gedit, but not Firefox.
Someone needs to put this on higher priority.
I really hope it gets fixed soon. :(
