First please remove any extensions you might have locally installed:
cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
rm -rf extensions
and then log in again.
Next time the "delaying" starts please hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open a Terminal
and then run 'top' to see what process is using hi
