I have fixed the issue on my Gutsy system, but am hoping to get the
default fixed in Hardy. Here's the output:

You may adjust the hotkeys' controlled element(s) with the top panel's
System> Preferences> Sound> Devices> Default Mixer Tracks. As for the
enumerated output device - what's the output from `asoundconf list` in a
Terminal?
