packet and it still crashes when trying to extract music to MP3.

Yes, that is the solution for me, too. It was kind of a lucky find when
this worked for me. Also, I added a comment in the Softwarecenter for
users who might have the same issue.

I had the same bug in Mate 17.10 and Mate 18.04. Removing the paket
rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar fixed it for me.
