I researched it a bit further and realized I was confusing it with Cairo Dock.
That is something I tried out some time back. That is not installed on my
system now.
I now understand where that bug report may apply now.
This Trash pop-up error is getting a bit out of hand so I do
GeeMac, please upgrade cairo from that ppa and restart your session
before testing. Then please report if that does fix your problem or not.

applets. It is not standalone application...

I don't have Cairo running in this install unless Variety Wallpaper Changer is
based on Cairo.
As for gdb, sorry never used it for debugging so I am at a complete loss on
using it

Do you know how to use gdb? I would like to see stacktrace from crashed
applet...
I might be wrong, but this could problem in cairo:

If you know how to patch software then you could try to patch cairo with
patch from above bug report.

I see in the old bug report that this was not answered thus the issue being
closed.
Which version of gnome-applets are you running?
If this is still a valid question in my case, please instruct me on how
to find the versions of the applet and I will be happy to post them.
