when I use the gst-launch command, I get a movie player window with no controls
that starts with the described narrow, distorted image; but I can grab the
window border and pull the window to a format where the aspect ratio is correct.
When I use the i810 video driver, the image distortion proble
another problem I just now saw when directly comparing vlc and totem:
totem shows the video in about half the original resolution. it really looks
blocky.
I had that problem before, but don't know how to solve it.

Do you get the issue playing the file with "gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=file:///path/to/video" or if you use the i810 video driver?

Thank you for your bug. What xorg videodriver do you use? Does changing
the videosink to x11 in gstreamer-properties make it work correctly?
