Would appreciate at least trying to do the same for 2.44.1. The fact
that some GNOME apps (brasero) aren't fixed should strengthen an
argument in favour.

Yeah, let's disable them for the release. Developers can still opt in to
showing them while developing an application by setting
G_ENABLE_DIAGNOSTIC to 1.
