Ok, so if I understand this correctly, it's rather about a bad
resolution being used (a virtual resolution that differs from the
physical), than a problem with entries in GDM?
Could you first try:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
If that doesn't help, please post your xorg.conf?

I don't really understand what's going on here. John; Is it possible for
you to get screendumps showing the problem? Perhaps photograph the
monitor using a camera and attach here?

This issue is back
It seems i set my screen res to 1600x1200 as normal but i get black edges
around screen so i use the monitor buttons to fit screen when i log out and
back in (not needed but for any reason) and the gdm no longer fits right (kdm
same way) the only thing i can say is the same is
The problem was weird the gdm was oversized for screen so moving mouse
to edges of screen scrolled to it. I worked on it for a few days couldnt
find the issue so i reformatted it was way too annoying to me and it now
works as it should. Closing due to not being valid anylonger

date. Is this still an issue for you?. Which theme are you using the
default one?
