I use compiz normally, but the problem is also there when _not_ using compiz or any fancy stuff. As said it is a IBM Thinkpad T42, so the specs are: 64MB RADEON 9600, Intel Mobile Pentium M 735(1.7GHz) The driver I use is: Identifier "ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600
