If gnome-session-quit also doesn't work, then it is a bug in gnome-
session, and there is nothing we can do in gnome-panel about that.
I suggest you to ping the author of the patch from bug 491940.

Hm, I cannot reproduce this at home (standard Trusty installation,
remote login via XDMCP: all fine). There must be some reason why logout
does not work with our LTSP server.
Question: What can prevent logout from gnome-session? What can cause the
above cited error? (Failed to call logout: Logout
