The bug is some years old without activity or new report and the code
changed quite a lot since, closing as deprecated, better to open a new
issue if that's still happening on current Ubuntu versions

I can get this to work if i add the no desktop flag:
nautilus --no-desktop
It would seem to be related to something with the desktop then?
