I don't want to use the Adwaita Theme, it conflicts with my Cinnamon
settings...it would be helpful for color settings to default to user's
window manager settings, yet parameterizable in a conf editor.

Same on 12.10. Bit of searching reveals that this is a theme issue.
Workaround: switching to the adwaita theme, you get black font.
