The same here. I have the same problem with an Ubuntu Edgy The Eft. So
the problem is not solved. If I have to submit a new bug I will do it.

The status didn't say "Closed" so I figured it wasn't solved. I probably
just found the page by doing a Google query, as many people probably do
when they are looking for a solution to this well known problem. I
wanted to post a work-around for people to use in the mean time.

With Edgy Eft I was able to produce the exact same error.
I wrote a quick and dirty script to solve the problem for me until it is
fixed:
#!/bin/sh
killall xcompmgr
gnome-session-save --kill
I removed the shutdown button from the panel, and added this script. I changed
the icon to the shutdow
