Sorry I had to give up and go back to 10.10 so many things didn't work.
The list of things - k3b, kate to name the first 2 things I tried which
make the X server crash is just too long.
Please let me know when the thing is debugged.

Sorry I spoke too soon it's started crashing on the 173 version now.
The card is a GeForce GTS 250
Also getting a problem from some GTK programs giving the message:

I just upgraded to 11.04.
I am running an AMD-64 with an NVidia GEForce graphics card in twin screen mode.
It seems to work OK (after some trouble getting Unity to work) but as soon as I
start the VirtualBox Manager window the X server crashe
