Close the bug if you like, but my personal view is that evince should perform a basic file format check and not just simply assume that a file is a pdf because it has a .pdf extension to the filename. Presumably since evince can open valid pdf's, it follows that it should be capable of recognising

Further investigation reveals that the person sending the files to me somehow managed to send me 5 copies of the same doc file. The pdf turned out to also be a word doc file. So the bug is a red-herring. If anything out of this could be called as a bug, it would be that evince was willing to proce
