I have the same problem too. I had an mms URL that used to stream just
fine from Rhythmbox, but it suddenly stopped working, although VLC still
can stream it. I think it's due to one of the system updates, as that's
the only change introduced in my case. Also, I'd like to say that it's
not a Rhythm

A logout is not required to refresh the The Desktop view (Hide all
windows and show the desktop), killing nautilus (killall nautilus) will
