I wanted to add that I have the same problem too.
Additionally if I press any of the Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch buttons the
screen freezes completely and I have to restart the PC.
( Using Wayland Ubuntu 17.10 )

When I am trying to play a video in youtube, in either html5 or flash
format. The gnome-settings-daemon starts to use all the CPU and the
video becomes extremely choppy. Even if I close firefox, it continues to
eat at 100% of the CPU.

I have this problem in Hardy updated from Gutsy too. I suppose more
people don't realize the problem just because of the previewing mode
which is default in nautilus. I have deleted any overrides of mimetypes
in my home folder.
