After update to maverick pdf fails to display properly.
The figure is afflicted by some sort of display artifact.

A simpler workaround (two click solution) is to just click "switch user"
to open the fast user switcher. Then, instead of selecting a new user,
reselect the passwordless account to get back in. You don't have to
uninstall the screensaver. You just have to know which buttons to click.
Possible fixe
The behavior goes well beyond counterintuitive and into the realms of
the actively deceptive. What Emmet Caulfield omitted to mention in his
excellent comment is that when you first click in folder properties to
change an icon, a window opens entitled "Browse icons" which has icons
