I have the same issue - however,
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/extracted/old/libgtk xchat, doesn't completely
do it for me.
Channel colours do change - mostly - but they don't return to brown to
signify there's nothing new in the channel

This is confusing - appears to be as said above and brasero reports how
much space is left.
