I'm having a similar problem in 10.10, after installing samba and nfs,
when adding a shared folder, i only see share through NFS listed, not
samba :(

rhythmbox doesn't do anything with .pls given on the command line...
this is unfortunate... If I add some line to this file will it fix it?

The bug is not consistent and only occurs sometimes and on my laptop.
My desktop is not currently running ubuntu but as soon as i can
install the testing version on it if it occurs again I will try
launching from the terminal. Thanks
