I wonder if there is some confusion here to what exactly is the "login
sound". The double drums as the login screen appears is played (if at
all) by gdm and is configured in System->Administration->Login
Screen->Play login sound.
The sound tune played after you have successfully entered the passwo
libao merely Suggests: libesd0. It is built with esd support (build-
depends on libesd0-dev). But I think it is supposed to survive even
without finding libesd.so. Really, brasero's detection based on parsing
console output needs to be fixed, or as Steve said long time ago,
disabled.

I installed cdrdao on my maverick system, but then ran into an
"Unsupported type of task operation" internal error. I am afraid that
once these bugs are resolved, there is still bug 639908 open, so it does
not look good for CD copying in 10.10.

We had a discussion on IRC #ubuntu-x right now, and the consensus was
that by default, g-s-d should not turn external screens on or off, but
leave it the way the X server has set it up. If the user later
configures things on/off these settings will be applied next time.

Can you please make new "broken" log files as follows: Rerun the gconftool
command as your user, but now with "true" at the end. When you log in again, it
should be broken. Switch to a console with ctrl-alt-F1 and log in and run:
xrandr --verbose -d :0 > xrandr.broken.txt
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log
OK, rename it back (I am not sure if this file is being used anyway), and try
this command instead:
sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --type=bool --set

The OOM can be caused by bug 565981, but evolution allocating 1.3GB for
what it does sounds like a bug or serious software architecture failure
in its own.

Well, yes, if you can, but the point is not everybody can set "triaged".
A developer assigns a bug to himself when he has decided to work on it.
Anyway, this might be a bug in the Nvidia closed-source proprietary
driver so there is not much we can do about it.

it a status so that developers can safely look at it. Now we will have

IMO, it is most intuitive if ctrl-U (or the menu entry) hides/shows
(toggles) the user list, but that is a bit inconsistent with the way it
works with the pop-up list, where ctrl-U displays it and the escape key
dismisses it.
