xrdp is setup, connections to client work: mstsc connects to client,
authentication is successful, then starts x11, starts session,
terminates session, terminates x11, closes connection. All without any
visible error. Any idea why?

the system starts "gdm", but this maps to the default gdm selected by
"update-alternatives". Since gdm is not installed, but lightdm is,
update-alternatives automatically selects lightdm to start with:

Singe gdm isn't installed, I did not expect to find configuration files

- reboot=bios
- acpi=noirq
but none did help. System keeps rebooting on "poweroff", "halt -p" or

with an older kernel but not with the latest one, I'd assume the newer
kernel does not initialize the devices the right way.

Impossible! As soon as the screenshot window opens the whole screen is
redrawn --- all artifacts are removed this way! If there is a way to
take a screenshot without poping up a window I could try using this.

Quite difficult. As soon as I move the mouse it may hover a window. This
leads to a redraw of all windows, removing the artifacts from windows

Open a window (shell, browser, LibreOffice, ...) open some more windows, work.
Move some of the windows from one desktop to the other. Parts of the moved
windows will still display. Switching from one console to an other will remove
these parts and redraw the whole screen.

If an user list is displayed, click on "Other ...", then enter an user
name, then tab, to switch to then next active key, in this case
"Cancel". Press "Return". Surprisingly you're prompted for a password,
instead of canceling the action.

I just noticed: for every try there is a new X-Console opened. Switching
to old ones (using Ctrl-Alt-F7, Ctrl-Alt-F8, ...) mouse will have focus,
but not the keyboard. Means: I can drag the mouse cursor arround, but
keypresses are ignored. The mouse-keys are ignored too.
